As long as you are a registered voter (on the voters list) you are eligible to run and vote in this by-election. Having a physical copy of your MNBC Citizenship card is not a requirement, however, you will need to know your MNBC Citizenship number in order to run for office, nominate someone, and vote successfully.

Yes. Article 23.8 of the MNBC Constitution states that individuals are disqualified from running for elected MNBC positions if they have been convicted of a criminal offense carrying a penalty of two (2) years or more. All candidates must provide a written declaration and Criminal Record Check to the Chief Electoral Officer along with their filed nomination papers per Article 46 of the MNBC Constitution. Results and content of Criminal Record Checks will not be made public.

No. Neither the MNBC Electoral Act nor the Constitution require elected officials or representatives to step down from their position during an election while running for office. If you are on the Board of a Chartered Community and you are elected to the MNBC Board of Directors, you must resign from your Chartered Community Board before being sworn in to the MNBC Board of Directors (Constitution, Article 12.1).

Yes. The Chief Electoral Officer will provide the appropriate voters list and their contact information as per the by-election rules and procedures. Candidates shall be required to execute an Oath to protect and respect Citizen privacy rights and conduct themselves with extreme care and consideration once access to the voters list is provided, along with understanding and following all provincial and federal laws regarding address, email, and telephone details and solicitation in general.
